According to the baby book, Bob's hair will have begun to form on his/her head by today. It goes on to say in another month it could be as much as up to 1 inch long. Whoa!!!
Bob took about a 3 day vacation from seriously kicking me and I was starting to get a little worried (and probably would have freaked had it not been for feeling him/her shift around a bit). The little bugger has seemed to have gotten his/her energy back after that nice rest because we're back to practicing in-utero Taekwondo.
What else can I tell you about? Andy and I went to our new apartment yesterday afternoon since Andy had the day off work. He knocked down all the backsplash tiles in the kitchen and baseboard tiles in the kitchen/hallway. I had to stay outside the apartment because the noise was so loud that it must have hurt Bob's ears. Everytime Andy started beating the tiles with the hammer & chisel, Bob started kicking me hard in protest. We decided it would be better if I went outside and enjoyed the nice spring weather and the sunshine. I took a nice long walk through our new city just to see what's there and enjoyed some relaxing time in the sun by the Wiese (the small river that flows through the entire valley of both where we live now and where we'll be moving to). I think it did both Bob and me some good. We decided on a local chinese "imbiss" place for dinner and we decided we probably won't go back. I had super bad indigestion which I read online could come back about this time. So, I guess I'm going to have to start again to be more careful about what I eat.
Other than that, I have an appointment with the Hebamme (midwife) tomorrow. They perform a slightly different role and are much more involved in the process here in Germany than in the US. Also interesting (though not exactly comforting) is that neither my Doctor nor Hebamme will be present at the birth of my child. These women are in private practice and apparently here that means you can't perform any duties at the hospital because you're not employed by the hospital. My type of insurance only allows me to do my normal standard care (all the pre-natal stuff) with a doctor in private practice - so there's the rub. Luckily, because this has been somewhat of a complicated pregnancy I have already been to the hospital several times in the early months and know several of the doctors. I am hoping I get to have Doctor Speck as she saw me twice and is really, really nice. Plus she speaks great English, so just in case in the midst of my stress and pain my German should fail me...
Lastly, in other excitements not related to Bob, our totally beautiful and soon to be self-installed kitchen will arrive special delivery from Ikea on Friday. YAY!!! I can not wait. Of course, being pregnant means I won't be installing ANYTHING. I'm not used to being totally LAZY and setting on my butt and watching other people work. It's ok though - I'm the runner which means I get to pick-up lunch and anything we don't have (in the way of tools or supplies) from Bauhaus. Honestly, we are so lucky to have great family - aunts and uncles and the in-laws are coming to help us. We also have to do the bathroom but for that we're hiring professionals...
All our very best,
Mommy & Bob
