There's a lot going on in Bob's world this week and mine too. I have strangely enough become interested in baby names over the last few days. It's only just recently hit - perhaps because I stumbled accidentally across this really cool website: http://nameberry.com/. I never knew naming a baby could be so tough: first off, you have to find something that sounds good with Kaulmann (both alone and with the middle name). If you also factor in all of Bob's grandparents (as we don't find out the sex until the 22nd of March) and their possible namesakes from prior generations (in the form of middle names) that's already a good start but it's not enough. Then you also look at the number of syllables, the initials (to make sure they don't spell out something like D.I.C.K or C.O.C.K - Germans tend to do double first or double middle names), possible nick names or cruel jokes the kids could make out of the name (let's face it kids can be cruel) as well as cultural influences of America and Europe (but more specifically Germany) to make sure your name is Kosher anywhere the kid could reasonably end up spending good chunks of time. But wait, like a good infomercial, there's more: you also have to keep an eye out that the name respects/honors both influencing cultures but is equally pronouncable in both. Then you top the cake with this icing: we also want something unique (but not celebrity freak unique), which honors tradition and family but yet is still cutting / edgy / catching and relevant without being the naming fad of the moment...
phhheeeeewwwwwww do we have our work cut out for us!!! We're open to suggestions definitely but ask please not to be offended if we ultimately don't choose yours...
In development news: the baby book said earlier this week that during this week pads would begin to form on baby's fingertips and toes. It goes on to say that by tomorrow those pads will develop the characteristic swirls of finger and toe prints. Apparently these ridges or swirls are caused by the baby's movement of hands and feet in the amniotic fluid. This is the reason even identical twins have different fingerprints... Who knew? Cool huh!
Lastly, the baby book says my carbohydrate intake will need to increase over the last two trimesters. "Carbs provide your body with energy and can be found in sugars, starches and fiber." Anyone who knows me well knows what music this is to my ears. I am a definite carboholic. Look out potatos - here I come!!!
Speaking of potatos: that's about the size Bob is now - a large baked potato: loaded please!!!
All our very best,
Mommy & Bob
